Expertly hand-woven in modern designs using wool on a cotton foundation in the Fustat region of the Nile delta, this 1960s Egyptian Kilim measures 6'7" x 9'10". Kilims & Flat Weaves are unique rugs without a pile, created by tightly interweaving warp and weft strands to produce a flat surface. This traditional horizontal loom weaving method results in precise geometrical patterns. Lighter in weight and softer to the touch compared to pile rugs, kilims were also utilized as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, table covers, and wall hangings for insulation and decoration.
