most likely this is a young scion of milanese high society, as crespi was wont to do.
signed localized and dated lower left.

enrico crespi
born in busto arsizio on december 13, 1854, he moved with his family to settle in milan while still a child.

at the age of diaciasette, enrico was already working at the technical office created for the arrangement of milan's cathedral square and simultaneously attending the school for surveyors and some perspective classes at the brera academy, taught by luigi bisi.

in 1874 he decided to devote himself solely to painting, enrolling at brera and becoming a disciple of francesco hayez, by then more than octogenarian.

during his life enrico made various internal friendships with members of the scapigliatura. Following a brief stay in paris, a long article praising his work was dedicated to him in the magazine "natura e arte."

alongside painting he tried his hand at producing engravings and etchings.

a series of the painter's works is preserved within the civic art collections of marliani-cicogna palace in his hometown.
this painting, never before on the market, comes from a private collection and is beautified by an antique frame.
