Very beautiful wavy bowl from the Dugan Glass Company in the United States, first quarter of the 20th century, in iridescent molded glass, called carnival glass, peach-colored, with a wavy-shaped top, decorated in relief of the Brooklyn Bridge and 'an airship with the inscription "Brooklyn Bridge" under the airship in the center of the bridge. The color has marigold iridescence. The color is wonderful.
The undulations of the glass are spectacular and give it an aerial shape.
These bowls were probably made to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of the bridge. A gala ceremony is said to have taken place in May 1908 and would have been the ideal venue to sell souvenirs commemorating the event.
The Dugan Glass Company was a decorative glass manufacturer based in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The company was in business from 1905 to 1913. Carnival glass is molded or pressed glass that has had an iridescent luster applied to the surface. The name carnival glass was adopted by collectors in the 1950s because the items were sometimes given away as prizes at carnivals, fetes, and fairs. However, there is evidence that the vast majority of these items were purchased by households to light homes at a time when only the wealthy could afford powerful electric lighting, as their finish catches light even in dark corners.
