The dark inked lines surround and cosset the mother and her child and are reminiscent of religious art in Renaissance Italy while being a modern reinterpretation of the subject. Picasso used the line to great effect and in this piece Berlin has channelled it equally effectively to create a poignant study of a mother and her child.
