An eloquent work painted with an intuitive ,bravura brush in muted tones of ocher, rust and gold; signed lower right, 'Sears' for Richard Sears, (American, 1924-2013) and dated 1960.

Born in California in 1924, Richard Sears received his B.A. from Santa Barbara College of the University of California and his M.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. Before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1953, he taught at the University of California and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He held one-an exhibitions at the Santa Barbara Museum, Raymond and Raymond Gallery in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and at the Forsythe Gallery in Ann Arbor. Since the early 1950's, his work has been included in many regional and national exhibitions. See less
