Important tapestry from the 'Slit Series' by the Dutch textile artist Wil Fruytier (1915-2007).
Wil Fruytier was one of the most prominent textile artists of the Netherlands. She called herself a textile architect because she aimed for a special creation with her large tapestry.
'The tapestry should not only be monumental, functional, but according to me must also realise the necessary link between man and his surroundings. To achieve this, strength and clarity, both in structure and design, are essential conditions'.
In her work she has changed the artisanal reputation of textile art into a contemporary expression of conceptual art. She was a true textile art pioneer.
This tapestry is an incredible piece of art. In the 1970s she made a series of slit tapestries. The slits reveal and conceal, illustrating the artist's fascination with light. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
