An excellent rare original extra large Japanese History School poster. It came with a collection of 18 posters published in Japan, which were banned after the end of WW2 by the general headquarters of the allied forces. It was used in Japan, before the end of WWII. Published between early 1900s and 1940s. Brought to the US by a military staff member stationed in Japan after WW2. Mat and frame for display only. Good condition - age and edge wear.
The poster is depicting Hakuseki Arai (新井 白石, March 24, 1657 – June 29, 1725), who was a Confucianist, scholar-bureaucrat, academic, administrator, writer and politician in Japan during the middle of the Edo period, who advised the shōgun Tokugawa Ienobu. Hakuseki was born in Edo and from a very early age displayed signs of genius. He studied Chinese literature, history, geology, linguistics and philosophy.
