The piece is signed and dated on the base - "Munro 1988.”
Munro's minimalist modern pottery has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York - Pompidou Centre in Paris - the Design Museum in London and the San Francisco - Museum of Modern Art.
His style so favored that Giorgio Armani bought the entire collection of 12 vases on display in a London showroom and fashion designer Donna Karan followed suit a month later. Munro's client list includes the Emperor of Japan and Sir Terence Conran.
Munro uses a combination of ancient and modern firing techniques, ensuring every piece produced is unique. He states - "the flames from the burning wood create uncontrollable surface patterns on the vase allowing me to concentrate on the simplicity of form. The designs are a rare combination of elegant classicism and linear modernism defining its own category within the contemporary ceramic world."
