Vintage: Late 18th. Century, Signed, Monumental English Seascape, Maritime Artists', oil painting on canvas by Thomas Buttersworth Junior. He was born B.1768-D.1842. He spent the better part of his art career in England, and is best known for his Marine watercolor and oil paintings, as well as charcoal, mainly of sea battle scened, as he was also a Mariner himself, which means that many of his depictions are from first-hand observations, as he was to the ship the "Enterprise," in London, and several years later on the "Carolina," During the French Wars. However by 1800, he became land bound, and invalid during sea duty in Minorca, until such time of injury, and then he took to painting those scenes from land. He also became and assumed the appointment of "Marine Painter," for the East India Company. The artist pieces reside in public and private collections, including The National Maritime Museum in London.
A San Fransisco retired couple and transplants to Palm Beach, Florida, since 2005, purchased this in England in 1981, and are the Current Owners, who are downsizing their art collection and residence. They Pid in a Gallery 32k for this then, But realize they must purge some of their antiquities, predominantly Seascape Ptg, like this gorgeous one. They have lovingly consigned this item herein and I have the dubious distinction and pleasure to offer this quality and provenance of wonderful, Maritime Painting, as an Artist, the painter's skill and adeptness, as well as toward's the first-hand observed, authenticity are of the utmost.
