It shows the impeccable craftsmanship of the time, has built in levels of drawers and file cabinets and a secret top. It has been in my family for over 66 years since my parents lived overseas in Paris and then in Stuttgart Germany. I believe it was purchased in Stuttgart and there is a sticker on the back that says Walter Bandell Stuttgart N Schillerstrafle 29. This may be the name of the craftsman , the seller, or the location where it was purchased. On bottom of one drawer is a name inscribed that we believe may be one of the craftsman making the drawers. My mother described that during this era, the wealthy gentleman in his home would have an office with a
desk like this one and a companion breakfront to serve their male guests gathered with spirits, coffee etc. After returning from Europe, the desk became the working desk of my mother 's office in the Virginia boutique real estate company that she founded. When my mother moved from her home, I inherited the desk so to speak and used it for storing and accessing all her health and financial data that I used in managing her affairs. Now I am planning to move and downsize so want this beautiful useful desk to go to a new home. There is plenty of space to set up your i pad and computer on the desk and the storage is incredible. There are only a few defects where small wood implants are missing. (and frankly not noticeable). We have some small wood pieces but not clear if they are all from those missing pieces. The desk is moved layer by layer and all fit back on perfectly. It isn't moved as one solid enormous piece. less
