Francesco Baracca (Lugo, May 9, 1888 - Nervesa, June 19, 1918) was the leading ace of the Italian Air Force during World War I, during which he was credited with thirty-four shoot-downs of enemy aircraft, the highest number ever achieved by an aviator in the Italian Air Force. He was awarded the gold medal for military valor\.
Depicted in this large model (about 1/18th), handmade in the first half of the 1900s. The woods used are solid walnut and oak. The metal details, such as propeller, spokes, wheels and wing suspension, are made of hand-wrought soft iron and brass.
Both wheels and propeller turn regularly. Hand-painted and can be stationed either standing or suspended by means of special cables provided.
