If you're keen on aesthetics, you'll love this chandelier. Boretti (of Lyon) was a top-notch lighting manufacturer during The Period. Look at the pictures and note the elegant lift of the arms, the design of the finials, the details in the castings (all brass, brush-nickel plated). Here's something you'll always enjoy looking at!
This fixture has been completely disassembled, re-plated in a brushed nickel finish (it was originally nickel-plated, as were so many during the Art Deco period), and antique-patinated to avoid that "just re-plated yesterday," flat look." The shades are probably slightly newer than the fixture (10-20 years?), but they are gloriously suited insofar as proportions and shape go (in my humble opinion). Rewired and fitted with American candelabra sockets, each capable of holding a 60-watt bulb for a total of 180 watts of light. Use a clear bulb and the clear designs on the otherwise frosted shade will give some nice sparkle (thanks to the filaments in the bulbs). Restoring these French fixtures to work with American sockets is a difficult process and sometimes there's an anomaly. In this instance, the three shades are only held in place by gravity, as the little threaded rings that normally screw onto the outside of the French sockets can't be used -- the sockets don't sit high enough to allow this. So, if you live in a home with teenagers who like to throw footballs around, this might not be for you. On the other hand, gravity works sufficiently to hold the shades in place and the socket and the bulb will keep them in place as well. In other words, in a "normal" setting, nothing to be concerned about. I'll send three small 60-watt clear bulbs with the fixture.
Measurements: about 29 1/2 inches long, 27 in diameter.
