Antique GHANA, ASHANTI "Queen Mother" type hardwood hand carved stool.
Hand-carved stool made by the Ashanti People of Ghana, West Africa.
It's carved from one piece of wood and has great openwork which is a learned skill and passed down over many generations.
They are also known as the Asante People and they were the largest and most powerful of a series of states formed in southern Ghana by people known as the Akan.
Beautiful carved details with a traditional curved carved stool top and stepped base.
Hand carved tribal wooden stool, the round shaft bordered with crests centered on an openwork pillar surmounted by a curved seat. The shaped seat on a compressed circular support with pierced and carved central column and carved rectangular base.
The Ashanti stool is reserved for authority figures such as a chief and their families.
This particular wooden stools are traditionally handmade from one piece of wood from the Ashanti Tribe of Ghana.

This stool is great in a myriad of settings from traditional to eclectic to contemporary to Bohemian.
