A small Korean antique box circa late 19th century of Joseon Dynasty. The square form box was constructed with thick hardwood planks on all side (appears to be elm) with a noticeable top with overhang and two long block base supports. It is fitted with yellow brass hardware including corner and edge brackets, butterfly-form hinges and swallow-tail shape lock plate.
From the steady construction, we assume that the box served as a safe to store moneys or small valuables. It may be used by woman as an incidental box for their small jewelry pieces known as a P'ac-mul Ham.
