Stanley Boxer (1926-2000), was an American abstract painter and sculptor. He was known for his innovative approach to art, blending elements of Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, and Minimalism. Boxer was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League of New York and the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Throughout his career, Boxer experimented with various materials and techniques, including using unconventional tools like squeegees, brooms, and rags to create textured surfaces in his paintings. His works often featured bold colors, dynamic compositions, and a sense of spontaneity and energy. He received critical acclaim for his contributions to the abstract art movement and remains influential in the world of contemporary art. Boxer's art has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
