This is an extremely rare Japanese Kutani Vase with two “good luck” devil face masks. Made in the early 1900s, the base is signed with the characteristic hand scripted Kutani zo: 九谷造 mark. One side of this bottle shaped Meiji period vase depicts a Japanese celebration ceremony and the opposite aspect, a floral design with butterflies symbolizing a transformation or metamorphosis.
This vase was provided as congratulatory symbol to commemorate a monumental life event.
