The Latonia race track is located in Latonia, Kentucky, six miles south of Cincinnati and was once regarded as one of the premier horse racing tracks in the United States. This cup was won on October 17, 1925, by a bay mare named Deeming. The cup is made entirely from sterling silver and stands on a round pedestal base and has one handle on either side. A round wooden display base is also included. The cup has an engraved inscription on the front that reads, “The Latonia Cup 2 1/4 miles Kentucky Jockey Club Latonia, October 17, 1925 Won by Deeming.” Marked “L39970 Made in England JA” to the underside. An English sterling hallmark is stamped along the back of the cup consisting of a lion for sterling, an anchor for Birmingham, and a “V” date stamp. A maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmiths S. Blanckensee and Sons Limited is also stamped next to the silver hallmarks. It comes with a photo commemorating the event. Total approximate weight: 119.583 oz t.
