From Wedgwood, an English majolica scallop shell shaped seafood serving dish, date marked 1889.
Showing the mottled tortoiseshell glazing of greens, amber, and brown. The mold reflects Josiah Wedgwood’s preference for the naturalistic style in the Aesthetic taste.
True to life with a curled edge where the shell would naturally be hinged. The verso shows patches of brown on a cream ground glazing with an applied footing.
