Original lithograph by Maurice Brianchon, "Le Tricolor", from the limited-edition portfolio "Regards sur Paris", published by Andre Sauret in Paris in 1962-63, with the print being from the rarer HC edition of 30 as indicated by "HC/30" written in pencil in the lower right corner. The portfolio contained original lithographs by ten leading 20th Century artists: André Beaudin, Georges Braque, Maurice Brianchon, Jean Carzou, Marc Chagall, André Dunoyer de Segonzac, André Masson, Pablo Picasso, Kees van Dongen and Jacques Villon. Printed by Atelier Mourlot. For over 150 years, Mourlot was almost synonymous with lithography, producing work of such excellent quality that it was clear they had attained the height of printing mastery. Sheet size: 15 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches.
Maurice Brianchon (1899-1979), was a French artist. He studied at l’École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and was strongly influenced by Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. Pierre Bonnard's influence on Brianchon can be seen in this lithograph. However, as an art scene changed to the more abstract, Brianchon stayed with a style that looked back. While mostly a painter, Brianchon did create a number of attractive color lithographs.
Because of his limited output, Brianchon prints are scarce.
