Mid Century Modern Framed Acrylic Painting By Oregon Artist Robert Mulder Signed

Robert L Mulder (1922-2013)
Acrylic polymer - 27”x33”.
Born on July 25, 1922 in Grand Haven, Michigan the son of Henry and Della Blanche Willet Mulder. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Louise Kieft in Grand Haven just prior to Bob going overseas during World War II. He served in the United States Air Force flying in B24 Liberator Bombers in the 577 squadron. He was shot down over Hamburg, Germany and was a Pow from August 1944 to February of 1945. He marched more than 400 miles during that period of time as a prisoner. Bob returned from the war to earn a Bachelor degree from Western Michigan College of Education and a PhD from Ohio State University in speech pathology. He wrote numerous papers and books on stuttering including just a few of the titles:
“Stuttering in Childhood”, “Tangled Tongues”, and many other guides for the stutterer. Bob was director of Western Oregon Speech and Hearing Center for the Oregon College of Education from 1953 to 1968 in Monmouth, coordinator Speech and Hearing Unit for the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped Us Office of Education from 1968 to 1971 in Washington D.C., consultant for the US
Office of Special Education of Programs from 1972 to 1984, served as a visiting professor with Fresno State University and visiting lecturer with the Oregon College of Education, California State College Stanislaus, Northern Michigan and taught a course at Howard University. In 1972, Bob turned to being a professional artist with the encouragement of his wife, Helen. He was a part of the Portland Saturday Market from 1972 to 1997 with his paintings, silk screenings, watercolors, oils, acrylics, and ink and pencil drawings.
He was selected to travel to China and Hong Kong as one of 50 American artists and art educators in a dialogue sponsored by the Kennedy Center and Ministry of Culture and by the Government Secretariat of Hong Kong in 1988. Bob compiled many books of his art including a few of the titles as:
“Noble Creatures O The Large Dark Forest”, “Jocularity” “The Listener” and
“Mulder”.
