Mary & Jonathan Elber were an integral part of the California mid-century
art movement, with a gallery in Carmel during its prime.

Mary Elber started making batiks after learning the elaborate wax and dye technique, which has a stained glass luminosity and a mosaic style, from a friend who came back from Kathmandu, Nepal after doing a tour in the Peace Corps. The interest in the Elbers' work rose and they opened Village Artistry Gallery in Carmel to meet the demand.

Conservation has always been part of the culture of the Monterey region. Mary & Jonathan created "Otter Moon" to help fund preservation of the otters in the Pacific waters off the California coast. Proceeds from the sales of the poster were donated to a group dedicated to Otter and environmental preservation. Very few were made, which makes this a particularly rare california art history collectible.

The poster is in its original metal and glass frame and is in good condition. There is some debris between the glass and the print at the bottom of the print; the paper itself appears undamaged. See less
