This is an original map of Paris from 1770's by engraver Nicolas Chalmandrier. and published by Jacques a L'Enseigne de la Place de Victoires. This is a wonderful hand colored engraving of what Paris looked like at the end of the 18th Century from an aerial perspective. Surrounding the map are images of what were important locations at the time such as Les Invalides, Palace Royal, Ecole Militaire, and Gare du Nord (but not listed as such as it was the only station at the time!) Plus six of the important churches at the time. What I love most is what isn't there yet!!! No Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, Place de Concord and multiple bridges; and the Louvre is marked as Place de Louis XV as that was the palace.
This piece is framed in a 1940's gold tone frame.
