The medallions each contain bold interior floral motifs and ram’s horn detailing along the edges. A variety of large blossoms and traditional Anatolian symbols, including burdocks and octograms, decorate the field around the medallions. Burdocks are thought to ward off evil, while octograms, or eight-pointed stars, traditionally represent spirituality. Anchor symbols, unusual for a Turkish rug, appear above and along the sides of the uppermost medallion. The piece is also marked and dated in Turkish at the top of the field. The simple floret border pulls together colors from throughout the piece, giving a sense of order and harmony to the composition. This handsome vintage Turkish Oushak rug would enhance any space with its bold designs and rustic charm.
