This vibrant ashtray / decorative dish is by the famed American artist / ceramicist, Marc Bellaire, who was a former employee of Sascha Brastoff before launching his own studio. This is an example from his 'Mardi Gras' series of ashtrays, defined by its depiction of Harlequins posing. This is the largest example we have seen from this series and is in mint condition, with no chips or crazing. Marc Bellaire's signature is present on both front and back. Nice texture that does not translate in photographs; the colorful glaze that makes up the Harlequins' costumes almost looks like enamel. This piece has great dimension and depth due to the variety of ceramic techniques incorporated and rich colors used.
