The neoclassical design influence of the ancient Greeks and Romans is clearly evident, design motifs that enamored King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette as well. This particular example is unusual with a relief profile cameo of a beautiful maiden taking center stage, surrounded by intricate detailing, laurel sprays, acanthus plumes, ribbon tied into a bow, and of course two cherubs in full relief on a back drop of floral sprays. The subtly arched crown, so festooned, leads the eye outward to the shoulders which are graced with flaming urn finials set on protruding pediments. The corners feature intaglio foliate impressions accenting the bold molding detail, with acanthus fronds at top and plumes at the base, with tailored yet finely molded framework all between. Conceived for a graciously sized home, the generously sized glass will provide an incredible reflection of your room as well as enhance ambient lighting, just as it has for a century and a half!
