Personal dinnerware made exclusively for J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) for use aboard his personal steam yacht corsair, built in 1890. This 8” Luncheon plate by Minton's has the J. Pierpont Morgan signature navy blue trim with gold accents. Reverse has mintons stamp. Inside top of plate has the New York yacht club burgee and the commodore flag crossing staffs with a blue banner beneath reading "Flagship". J.P. Morgan was elected New York yacht club commodore in 1897. This fine porcelain china, made by the world renowned English maker mintons, was used to entertain Morgan’s guests. His guests were some of the most famous and powerful people of the day.
