A hand-built sculptural base by California ceramic artist Sherri Cavan, crafted from dense stoneware clay and finished with an iridescent green-bronze glaze. Created circa 2000, the piece embodies the expressive minimalism of the West Coast studio pottery movement, where form and texture take precedence over symmetry.
The organic cylindrical shape, tactile surface, and variegated glaze lend a raw, elemental quality evocative of natural rock or molten metal. Weighing over six pounds, the piece functions as both an independent sculpture and a display plinth for contemporary ceramics or small bronzes.
A distinctive example of Cavan’s earthy, modern aesthetic bridging art and function.
Purchased in San Francisco from a collector of her estate, purchased with many other of Cavan's pieces.
Measurements: 7"L x 7"W x 5.25"H
Weight: 6.3 lbs.
Origin: California, U.S.A
Age: 2000's
