"Oil painting on copper became prevalent in the mid sixteenth century in Italy and Northern Europe. The Flemish masters were particularly well known for their skill using “copper as canvas.” Artists such as El Greco, Guido Reni, Rembrandt and Vernet all painted on copper panels."
Offered is small portrait from our mother's collection. It does appear to have a very faint signature on the rear, however, it is near-impossible to read. It resembles the work of the Argentine artist, Cristina Santander (born in 1942 - who did experiment in this medium, and our mother personally encountered and befriended in the mid 1980s when her work was exhibited in Washington, DC). We can not ascertain the attribution.
The thin portrait on copper measures 6" W x 6.5" H, and approximately 0.0825 in thickness.
NOTE: The small easel is a prop, not included.
