Ekstrom was born in Chicago and spent time in the Air Force after receiving his MFA at the University of Illinois. He was a beloved teacher who taught drawing and painting in central Illinois for over 25 years. A superior draftsman, Ekstrom is versatile and works easily in abstraction and realism.
