The surround is ornately carved in black wood with motifs including a knight's helmet (with plume), crossed swords, axes, and shields—evoking heraldry and chivalric imagery. This piece is likely a 19th- or early 20th-century creation, designed as both a scientific instrument and a statement decorative object.
