This is a highly decorative wall barometer, elaborately crafted in a medieval style. Masterfully carved with the precision of the Black Forest tradition, the case is a tour de force of heraldic symbolism. It features a central Medieval Knight’s helmet (Sallet) adorned with flowing ostrich plumes, set against a backdrop of crossed halberds and ceremonial swords.
The instrument itself is a high-quality aneroid mechanism by the esteemed Parisian maker Guilmet, visible through the open-center dial. The brass movement is stamped with the authentic "GL" and compass hallmark, a signature of Victorian-era engineering excellence. The dial features elegant French typography (Grand Pluie, Variable, Beau Fixe) on a crisp white scale, protected by heavy bevelled glass.
The dark finish emphasizes the sharp architectural lines and deep relief of the carving, making it a dramatic focal point for a library, study, or classic entryway.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with minor surface wear. The barometer mechanism is intact and responsive. The brass bezel and glass show minimal patina consistent with age.
