Don Jones is known for his spherical and oval wheel thrown earthenware forms, surfaced to look like the sky. Jones achieved this effect by airbrushing work with underglazes for color and an allover thin coat of clear glaze. The artist refers to these pieces as “atmospheres.” Jones’ inspiration comes from observing the New Mexico sky.
This is a hand thrown ceramic elongated egg with a New Mexico sunset sky, hand painted.
Part of his "Atmospheres" collection which are no longer being produced. Clear acrylic stand.
Don Jones was a ceramic artist whose pieces have shown around the country and in particular at the Museum of Ceramic Arts. The "Atmosphere" collection in particular was created during his 15 year stay in New Mexico and was featured in the Ceramics Monthly Magazine.
