Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter, designer and artist in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles, and graphics. His work has been shown widely in Europe, in the United States of America first in 1954 and in Japan, Australia and Canada in 1968. Wiinblad was named Man of the Year in New York in 1985 and was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize of 1995. Wiinblad was an important designer for the Rosenthal porcelain company.  Museums the world over have Wiinblad's work in their collections. Among these are the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and Stockholm's National Museum.

In his Aladin plates, Bjørn Wiinblad virtuously depicts the tale of Aladin from the well known fairy tale The Thousand and One Nights. In this fairy tale Aladin achieves the greatest treasures and overcomes the gravest dangers, and Bjorn Wiinblad has, in his usual optimistic style, chosen the most important scenes from Aladin's life. The brilliant and intense colors with gold ornamentations stresses the splendor of this oriental fairy tale. The technique used for the plates is overglazed.
