An original extremely collectible first octavo edition John James Audubon hand-colored royal octavo lithograph entitled "Pinnated Grouse", No. 60, Pl. … Read more An original extremely collectible first octavo edition John James Audubon hand-colored royal octavo lithograph entitled "Pinnated Grouse", No. 60, Pl. 296, from Audubon's "Birds of America". It was lithographed, printed and colored by J. T. Bowen and published in Philadelphia between 1840-1844. This beautiful colorful lithograph depicts two adult male and one female pinnated grouse birds. One male and the female sit on land with a flowering plant to the right and a body of water in the background. The second male is flying towards the sitting male, apparently in an attack mode, while the female hides her head under her mate.

This original first octavo edition hand-colored Audubon bird lithograph is in very good condition, other than a wavy paper edge where the print was previously bound in the publication. The sheet measures 6.75" x 10". The original descriptive text pages 93-104 from Audubon's 19th century publication are included. See less
