This is an original rare and extremely collectible first octavo edition John James Audubon hand colored royal octavo lithograph entitled "Red-throated Diver", No. 96, Plate 478, from Audubon's "Birds of America". It was lithographed, printed and colored by J. T. Bowen and published in Philadelphia between 1840-1844. It depicts four Red-throated Divers; an adult male with summer plumage (1), an adult with winter plumage (2), an adult female (3) and a young Diver (4). An adult and the young Diver sit on the bank with plants and two of the Divers are in the adjacent water.
This original rare first edition hand colored Audubon bird lithograph is in excellent condition. The sheet measures 6.25" x 10". The original text pages 282-294 are included.
