This is an original rare first octavo edition John James Audubon hand-colored lithograph entitled "Canada Grouse, 1. 2 Males, 3. Females, 4. Trillium pictum, 5. Streptopus distortus", No. 59, Plate 294 from Audubon's "Birds of America, lithographed, printed and colored by JT Bowen and published in Philadelphia between 1840-1844. The lithograph depicts a group go four birds, including male and female grouse, standing on grass or a log. Several varieties of plants enhance this beautiful landscape scene.
This original hand colored Audubon bird lithograph sheet measures 6.5" H x 10.25" W. The print is in excellent condition, other than a tiny spot at the upper edge of the sheet. The original text pages, 83-88, from Audubon's publication are included.
