Title "Rain Clouds Of Liverpool. Yoeward Bro Ship Alca in background 1927-1955 Ferry Boat Claughton in foreground" by the known marine artist John Cromby.
In the foreground your focus is first drawn to the passenger ferry Claughton that is teaming along in front facing right on relative choppy waters of the River Mersey, further back is the impressive view of the passenger cargo ship Alca in side profile facing left with its single funnel showing iconic Letter Y with black smoke coming out. The ship has 3 tall masts. The name of the ship is shown along the bow, along with ensign flags hoisted. Further back are the iconic Royal Liver building and close by the Liverpool parish church, Our Lady and Saint Nicolas. The Pier head and the port of Liverpool buildings , you can see the green domed top further back along on the right side. There are also some birds seagulls flying cross the water. Above with mainly dark overcast rain clouds sky which rather enhances the atmosphere within this painting.
