This piece … Read more Original watercolor painting fashion rendering from the 1940s in its original framing. Signed M. Schmidt at lower right. This piece came from a luxury department store, where it was part of the store's retail display--see the tiny pen and ink sketch at lower left depicting the storefront! I do wish I knew the name of the store, but I only know it was located in Southern California.

The piece is in excellent condition, with a few scuffs to the wood frame's black paint, consistent with age and not detracting. Love the Forties fashion with exaggerated square shoulders to the jacket and the slim pencil skirt. The model's face and hair are done in a classic deco / early mid-century style. Also note the black mat--an unusual choice for the time being anything other than white, that really makes her maroon suit pop. See less
