Crafted in France circa 1870, the oval plant stand features a gracefully scalloped apron decorated with geometric marquetry panels, circular burl walnut medallions, and delicate bronze moldings outlining its curved silhouette.

The upper section is fitted with a removable oval wood cover, beautifully veneered in burl walnut and embellished with fine concentric string inlay and two small decorative brass handles. When removed, the cover reveals a deep oval compartment surrounded by a finely pierced gilt bronze gallery featuring repeating floral and foliate motifs. The upper rim is further accented with an ebonized molded border, creating a striking contrast with the warm walnut veneers.

The jardinière stands on four gracefully curved ebonized cabriole legs, embellished with gilt bronze female figural mounts, scrolling acanthus leaves, and decorative sabots. The legs are joined by a shaped lower shelf veneered in richly figured wood with delicate inlaid borders and gilt bronze edging, providing an additional display surface.

The antique Napoleon III plant stand is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a rich walnut patina, beautifully contrasted black finishes, and finely chased gilt bronze ornamentation. With its removable cover and sculptural proportions, this versatile jardinière would make a distinctive addition to a living room, conservatory, or entryway.
