A very fine Renaissance Revival table box or casket.
In solid silver (likely 800 fine).
Likely by Gebrüder Neumann or Storck & Sinsheimer of Hanau, Germany. (Storck & Sinsheimer exhibited at the 1876 Philadelphia International Exhibition.)
With a hinged lid that has a large scenes of the goddess Artemis (or Demeter) holding her harp and attend by animals. Each side decorated with repoussé mythological and allegorical scenes, including Ares, among others. The remaining surface is decorated in a tour de force of caryatids, strong men or 'Atlases' holding dwarves, flowers and vines, scrollwork, and stippled surfaces. All supported on bracket feet.
All in all, simply an amazing work of silver!

It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition.
Condition Details:
There are two "Atlases" with re-soldered legs and feet. We suspect that these are casting flaws that were worked on when the box was assembled. Additionally, there are some fine bends and possibly a few spots of solder in the scroll feet. Otherwise, there are some light dings and indentions here & there, some fine & light surface scratches here & there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
