This " Matisse and Fauvism : Dawn of Modern Art " rare vintage 1994 first edition hardcover French Modern Art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with laminated cover boards is published by JG Press North Dighton, Massachusetts. Printed in Slovenia in 1994 by Tiskavrna Ljudske Pravice. It features a survey collection of artworks from The Fauvism Art Movement, with compelling accompanied text authored by Diana Vowles.
In 1905 Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, Maurice De Vlaminck, and Georges Braque among others exhibited their highly innovative paintings at the controversial Salon D'Automne. The vivid, unnatural colors led the art critic Louis Vauxcelles to name their work as " Les Fauves ", or " The Wild Beasts ", marking the start of The Fauvist Movement.
The first of the great aesthetic art movements of The Twentieth Century, Fauvism remains in many ways the least understood. This book provides a clear definition of Fauvism - as a movement, a group, and a style - describing its origins and development, the philosophies and intellectual backgrounds of the Fauvist painters, and the art they produced.
In this special volume are chapters on each of the following artists and their fauvist works : Georges Braque, Charles Camoin, Andre Derain, Raol Dufy, Othon Friesz, Albert Marquet, Henri Matisse, Jean Puy, Louis Valtat, Kees Van Dongen, and Maurice De Vlaminck.
