This listing is for a very rare, limited edition, exhibition sculpture of Constantin Brancusi's modern, cubist, limestone sculpture "The Kiss", created by the artist in 1916.
This piece was created as an exhibition tribute by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, in 2005, when the museum hosted a retrospective of Brancusi's artwork.
Made of a faux limestone composite, it is extremely heavy for its size, with details that are meticulously true to the original work.
The embracing figures in "The Kiss" merge into a single form.
Two eyes make the oval of a single eye, hairlines sweep into a continuous arch, and arms join to encircle the cubic block.
This was the artist’s fourth version of the same theme, in which Brancusi recommended that;
"It be displayed, very simply, on its own base"
He believed that when it comes to displaying sculpture, "It's the complete thing that counts."
This solid, cubed, display of lovers, embracing, draws from both the Bauhaus School of Minimalist design while the decorative elements, are derived from the Art Nouveau movement, as seen in the detailed wavy hair.
Stylistically, Brancusi's work shares elements, in the manner of two other notable French artists of this era, Fernando Botero and Fernand Leger.
The original 1916 limestone sculpture, created in France, measured 23" H × 13" W × 10" D
This Tribute sculpture by the Philadelphia Museum of Art weighs 6 lbs.

It's a beautifully executed, focal, high-quality, representation of early 20th Century art. This replica, due to it limited run, very rarely comes to market.
Its "provenance" is embossed on the side of the sculpture, with the date, 2005, and the copyrights; gPMA (Philadelphia Museum of Art, ARS -Artists Rights Society/New York and
ADAGP/Paris.
