This Helen Frankenthaler rare vintage 1970 first edition Abstract Expressionist lithograph print landmark volume collector's large hardcover art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The 1st edition large volume monumental hardcover art book with transparent hard mylar dust jacket is published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers, New York, printed in Japan in 1970. It features an expansive monograph survey of the Abstract Expressionist artworks of the artist Helen Frankenthaler, with accompanied compelling text authored by acclaimed art critic Barbara Rose.
Helen Frankenthaler ( 1928 - 2011 ) is an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a liberal Jewish background, and is a major contributor to the history of Postwar Modernist painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, spanning several generations of Abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and evert changing new art works.
Her work has been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions including The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, The Jewish Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has been exhibited worldwide since the 1950's, and was awarded The National Medal of the Arts in 2001. Artworks by Frankenthaler are included in the collections of many of the world' most prestigious museums.
Helen Frankenthaler created images of beauty and power that have influenced countless other artists, including many older than she. In this first major retrospective volume on the artist, the author draws a warm and vivid picture of the woman and traces the growth and development of her work, offering a superb analysis of the evolution of her art.
The physical design of this volume is the result of a close collaboration between Helen Frankenthaler and her husband the artist Robert Motherwell. The painting on the cover was made especially for this publication. More than 200 large lithograph print illustrations, give a comprehensive view of the artist's work. A biographical outline, list of plates, and a selected bibliography round out this volume.
The rare out of print large format landmark volume art book measures 11 1/8" W X 11" H X 1 5/8" D, with 274 pages. It is printed on premium heavyweight paper stock featuring 209 lithograph print illustrations, including 54 plates in full-color.
