Crafted in France circa 1870, the oval mirror is richly decorated with a hand-carved shell cartouche crest flanked by scrolling acanthus foliage, while a complementary shell and foliate motif anchors the lower apron. The graceful frame is further embellished with delicate engraved floral garlands and an inner beaded border that accentuates the oval form.
Retaining its original beveled mercury glass and original wood backing, the mirror displays the depth, character, and soft reflective quality sought after by collectors of fine French antiques. The warm gold leaf finish has developed a beautiful patina over time, highlighting the intricate carving and enhancing the mirror’s sophisticated presence.
