Unusual and rare image, very expressive
A MASTERFUL depiction of Saint Like, The Evangelist, portrayed holding the Gospel and with his symbolic animal, the winged bull above his shoulder
Old Cyrillic text above the scene
It comes mounted in a French reticulated silver frame
The frame is hallmarked with a crowned F, as pictured, which dates it to 1746, Paris Guild
The icon could be older
Circa mid 18th century or older, Imperial Russia
Old label from a previous dealer remains

Measurements: Approx. 9 1/8" x 4.75" framed; 3.75" x 2.75" the image only
Weighs about 4 oz.

Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Surface craquelures, commensurate with age. Possibly a small spot of professional restoration in the sky above the bulls' horns, but inconclusive. Does not interfere with the painted image. All original See less
