Jackson Pollock ( 1912 - 1956 ) was an American painter and major figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of " Drip Painting ". During his life time, Pollock enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety, he was a major artist of his generation He had a volatile personality and struggled for most of his life. His marriage to artist Lee Krasner had an important influence on his career and legacy. The Museum of Modern Art New York has held 4 retrospective exhibitions of his artworks. Pollock is considered to be one of the most important Modern artists of The 20th Century.
