A momentous chapter in said portfolio is devoted to an important commission the Eames’ team received to design furniture for the Time Life Building in New York City which included a series of tables and most important; the Eames Time Life Executive Chair.

For lobby seating in the Time Life Building, the Eames’ intentions were to capture the comfort of their popular Eames Lounge Chair in a more streamlined fashion using lessons learned from their Aluminum Group range. The shown model 675 is the earliest and rarest of the suite, featuring a lounge swivel base which is pitched back perfectly for ultimate comfort. Herman Miller discontinued this Lobby version of the Time Life family sometime in the 1990’s, making it quite a sought after Eames collector’s item.

The Object Refinery team has taken the opportunity to celebrate this chair’s rarity and beautiful design by executing a complete restoration. We selected a handsome angora mohair in the deep color Smoke Brown, an excellent pairing with the professionally polished aluminum hardware on the chair. We also replaced all of the existing interior foam with new material, all in line with original factory specifications. The result is a discontinued artifact of design which has been respectfully restored to live on for another generation of enjoyment.

Note: The original manufacturer's label on this chair has since been lost, it is however an authentic Herman Miller design, unique to the only era in which it was produced. less
