Vinatge: C1910-1930's, French bronze attached Monkey light lamp table. A "HIGHLY RARE," piece; which was originally produced for the Gump's Department store in San Fransisco, California, where the owners had purchased it, and were the "ONLY," owners of this fabulous, eclectic and rarefied piece. It was conceived with this; Max Le Verrier, attributed, bronze monkey, with a glass amber tortoise shell satin finished shade, original to the lamp. The lamp has been attached to this Boho Chic, eclectic, charcoal, black matte powder-coated, finished metal topped, with an x-mitered, and/or crossed based metal, faux bamboo-style table, in a matte red lacquer powder coated finish. There is also a center rest below, perhaps for books, or magazines, for that special reading nook, den, office or room, or entry foyer ooh-la-la conversation piece, but a wonderful, whimsical, piece of furniture design, with history, yet eccentric and eclectic, with artistic character of refinement. This is the perfect entry, hall, hallway, etc. which may be used for; console table, or side lamp table, hall table, etc. We did not refurbish the piece, as we left all in it's original finish, should one wish to refurbish in their desired way. The metal has permeated slightly from it's original condition; to form some surface rust in that magazine/book holder section as close up image indicates, while also retaining the top and base in it's original condition, to not detract or defray from the patina, indicative to the period, age, provenance of style, etc. It is a HIGHLY RARE piece, for those discerning of a much coveted piece, beyond the fact it is also utilitarian, not just a show piece, but a showstopper for any interior, or for a Designer to place in that special interior scape domain. We love it so much, and have held onto this for years, until the right moment, perhaps where we may hand it off to another to care for it, and take it into another generation, or more to follow, as well as do it the justice deserved. There are 2 letters along side the bronze monkey either a "T," or "F," with a Letter "C."....perhaps and a guess might be Frederick Cooper, but alas all the research hasn't spawned that, but the bronze Monkey is signed. We do not think anyone has such a piece, and we have not come across in all our numerous years of searching, thus these past 10 yrs, it is that unique, but a collectors' collector's piece.
In good condition, needs restoring in various sections, a) where the x-mitered faux bamboo section meets the rest/flat platform area, also on the lamp section the round fluted cap that keeps the shade secure on the underside is in excellent condition, but on the top side has minor rust, as well as the socket, but we cannot ascertain other than the piece was kept in humid elements, for South Florida one never knows what that may denote, other than we were tickled pink to find this jewel. We also left the faux bamboo patina, with some wear, given the year and era f manufactured period.
Lamp is in working condition, glass shade is in excellent condition.
MONKEY...does NOT DETACH, many have tried...but the monkey is on a round base, which allows the monkey to rotate to any facing direction, should one wish to place the table in a vertical or side view profile, ie. as s side able, lamp table, reading table, or a console in an entry foyer, and/or landing, a perfect foil for any interior domain and a wonderful conversation piece, with aged provenance.
