A hand made, French Copper Turbotiere, a Turbo fish Poacher with iron handles, France c. 1830-1850.
Weighing a heavy SEVEN pounds!
This copper and iron, diamond shaped fish poacher, is called a turbotiere, made specifically to poach a whole Turbo, a large flatfish known for its delicate flavor and firm, flaky texture.
The poacher has a thick rolled rim, and two iron carrying handles attached to the pot with copper rivets. The dovetail seam seen on the prominently on the inside of the poacher is typical of the methods used in the early to mid 19th Century by French coppersmiths.
A beautiful piece of hand made copper cookery that will add a rustic French flavor, displayed in a kitchen or used as a table center filled with greenery. It also makes an excellent cooler filled with ice and beverages.
