A very beautiful shell shaped serving dish
Decorated with transfer printed under-glaze, then carefully hand painted in bold colored enamels with additional gilding over-glaze.
The lip has a floral decoration in the same palette and style
Characteristic for the pearlware bluish hue glaze
The pattern is called "Chinese Flowers", pattern number 2963. A plate in this pattern is shown on page 39 of Steven Smith's book called Spode and Copeland, published by Schiffer
Most likely considered as a sweet meat dish originally, this shallow bowl is perfect for serving candies, nuts or dessert treats
The dish is marked with a blue underglaze transfer print Spode at the border, incised stamp SPODE with number 42 and hand written in red pattern number 2963
The Spode family operated from Spode Works in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England from 1773 until 1829. George IV was on the throne, either in his own right until 1830 or as the Prince Regent from 1811 up until 1820, during the period when this bowl was made

Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Just a few minor knife marks in the center and rubbing around the edge, commensurate with age and use. All original.
