Decorated with blue transfer printed under-glaze, then carefully hand painted in bold colored enamels with additional gilding over-glaze.
The lip has a floral decoration in the same Imari palette and style
Tree differently colored gracious birds, cranes or maybe the mythical Fenghuang in flight around the borders
Note the little bug in the center, among the flowers
Characteristic for the pearlware bluish hue glaze
The pattern is "Chinoiserie with Flowers and Birds", Spode pattern number 3088.
Most likely considered as a sweet meat dish originally, this shallow bowl is perfect for serving candies, nuts or dessert treats
The dish is marked with an incised stamp SPODE with number 42 and hand written in red pattern number 3088
The Spode family operated from Spode Works in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England from 1773 until 1829. George IV was on the throne, either in his own right until 1830 or as the Prince Regent from 1811 up until 1820, during the period when this bowl was made
